Visa Inc., the global leader in payments, has appointed T R Ramachandran (Ram) as Group Country Manager for India and South Asia, commencing in January 2015. Ram replaces former Group Country Manager of six years, Uttam Nayak, who now will move to his new global role as Head of Emerging Products Digital.

Ram has been Managing Director of Aviva Life Insurance in India for the past six years and brings a wealth of knowledge to Visa with more than 25 years’ experience across retail banking, payment products, wealth management and insurance in India and Sri Lanka, both from Aviva and the prior 19 years where he worked at Citibank.

Chris Clark, Group Executive Asia Pacific at Visa, said: “I’m excited to welcome Ram to this important role at Visa. His understanding of the India and South Asia marketplace and relationships with regulators, media and industry stakeholders will help Visa to deliver an even stronger offer for our clients.

“At the same time I would like to thank Uttam Nayak for his tireless dedication leading Visa’s business across India and South Asia.  Over the past six years, Uttam has built a team that transformed India and South Asia to one of our highest growth markets globally. We look forward to his continued leadership in his new role as Visa’s Head of Emerging Products Digital,” he said.

At Aviva, Ram oversaw significant organisational change which resulted in company growth, not just from a fiscal perspective, but in terms of capacity and approach. Previously at Citibank, Ram was part of the start-up team that launched consumer banking products at the Bank. During his time there he held positions in marketing, product management, mortgages and business banking. He was Country Head of Cards and also Head of Retail Banking, India.

To be based in Mumbai, Ram will sit on the Visa Asia Pacific Leadership Team. He has a MBA from Bharatidsan Institute of Management, Tamil Nadu India and is an avid reader, volunteer and golfer.
